Climbing Areas in Vareš

Climbing Area: Gašina stijena

Only 3 kilometers from the center of Vareš is the Gašina stijena climbing area with 16 climbing routes, 6 of which are in two lengths. Access to the rock is via an asphalt road, next to the rock there are extensions where vehicles can be left. From Gaša's rock there is a beautiful panoramic view of Vareš and the surrounding mountains Zvijezda and Perun. The climbing routes at the Gašina stijena climbing area are set on two types of rock, 13 climbing routes are set on limestone and 3 climbing routes on spilite.

Climbing Area: Stijena

Only 5 kilometers from the center of Vareš, along the regional road R444, there is the Stijena climbing area with 8 climbing routes. Access to the rock is via an asphalt road, next to the rock is an extension where vehicles can be left. The rock is suitable for beginners to improve their climbing technique, the height of the rock is from 9 to 30 meters. The climbing routes at the Stijena climbing area are set on limestone.

The climbing areas are equipped with sport routes with bolts and tiles (intermediate belays) and adequate anchorages, in order to raise safety during sport climbing to a higher level.
The installation of sports climbing areas on natural rock in the area of Vareš municipality was carried out through the project Magical climbing areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina, through a partnership with the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education in Sarajevo. The municipality of Vareš is one of the ten municipalities selected for the installation of climbing areas.
